Henry and Isaac traces the careers of two complicated and intriguing characters from the dying decades of the Wild West – one a successful, largely self-educated bank robber, the other a well-known judge.
The story turns on a meeting between the two several years before they confronted each other across a courtroom. It draws on events that are a matter of record and although this meeting is not among them, it is one that might have happened.
As the story unfolds, it explores their characters, motivations and the influence of the meeting on their lives through events they each played a part in.
This is a singular, absorbing and entertaining book that will interest those who like western fiction and those who enjoy a good read.

Roberts vividly paints the picture of a hardworking Cherokee Rancher who groomed his son, Henry, to become a real man, survive in the Indian Territory in which they lived and at the same time, embrace the value of education, even though he himself was a stark illiterate.Following the sudden and tragic death of his beloved father, young Henry, his brother, sister and mother became very close-knit. Sadly, everything changed for the family once again when their mother fell in love with a white man and Henry was obliged to leave home at age thirteen to fend for himself.
He literally wandered in the wilderness until he became an outlaw. After a series of misadventures, Henry meets his untimely demise, much to the chagrin of his beloved mother.
Roberts is a very articulate wordsmith and I enjoyed this story immensely. I can hardly wait to move on to his next book entitled Old Bones.

Henry and Isaac edition by Ian Roberts Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Interesting and thought provoking story about two real characters in western history. It is basically the story of an outlaw and his thinking about his circumstances and choices. It is well written, although it does drag at times.
